and it’s another FRIYAY – although, honestly, as a full-time graduate student, i did not notice much of a difference between the weekdays and weekends! i am once again sharing my weekly top videos on Tiktok!
this week is indeed a challenge, as i have two large-graded assignments and am participating in a 30-day writing challenge with 60 other Vietnamese from nine different countries (yes!). hence, this blog serves “multi-purposes” at the same time and i’m calling that lazy resourceful.
also, given that it was such a hectic week, I did not have as much Tiktok time as i used to. strangely, i still receive 35 videos in just 1h20ms screentime as compared to:
- 38 videos in 5h15m (Week 3)
- 44 videos in 3h7m (Week 2)
- 37 videos in 5h54m(Week 1)
ISN’T IT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT?(and omg i can spend up to 6 hour on Tiktok…)
in terms of video views, i’ve noticed that there is only one video in my list with around 5,000 views, while the rest of the videos appear to be quite popular. perhaps, because i’m spending less time on the platform, Tiktok is recommending content based on how popular it is rather than my content interest?
also, another new behavior that I’ve begun to adopt this week is exploring what other universities are doing with their Tiktok channels and deciding whether or not to follow them. this behavior is adopted after a great video from the University of Bristol about their research project. there are indeed hundreds of universities on Tiktok and i followed them all before unfollowing them one by one after “scanning” their content over the course of several days. hopefully, that this action will teach Tiktok that i’m nowinterested in #universtok #researchtok.
so now without further ado, i’m getting back to the main topic. again, top videos of the week are chosen based on the following criteria:
(1) Emotion – videos that evoked the most emotion in me when watching them
(2) Content– video with the best stuff that made me go “urg, I wish everyone knew about it”
(3) Production – video with the best production. this may act as a great reference for a future instructional design project.
sadly, for this week, i am unable to decide one for the Production category, even though all of the shortlisted videos are of high quality. they do not have that future reference impact to me.
here’s the shortlist for this week, and the first winner is…. *drumroll*
EMOTION

- What’s interesting? I’m quoting a comment: “he found the hill he was willing to die on and has stuck to it, i respect it”. this video stopped my scroll for several minutes as my brain starts to be filled with questions: why is he doing this, how is he doing this? why is “comprise of” used but nothing else? similarly to last week nomination, i always-found the idea of staying committed to something and doing it with great determination to be very inspiring personally. his story serves as another inspiration to keep moving forward, even if it leads to nothing (but reading the comments, it appears that he did get several interviews for his stories, so humhhh – and that he made quite an impression on me, so – it does lead to something!)
EMOTION:
- Creator: University Of Phoenix

- What’s interesting? this short video about the University of Phoenix’s graduation ceremony comes in second in the emotion category. the group’s age, race, and (possibly) nationality diversity, combined with their happiness, is insane. i watch it several times, imagining myself as one of those people and thinking about the power of education to bring together these like-minded, yes defined humans.

- What’s interesting? I’m shouting out for this video describing sound-absorbing wallpaper inspired by biomimicry. this is a new material developed to reduce noise using the same logic as a moth’s wings. i must mention that the visualization and production quality of this video are super comprehensive, as is the fact that it is exactly how I imagine life in academia should be casually featured to the mass audience!
once again, that’s all for this week! What’s your comment? Any favorite content that you want to share this week?
