2. Learning Objective

In Vietnam, ‘flexing’ – the act of showcasing one’s achievements or possessions – is often seen in a negative light. We are more of the ‘peer-pressure’ team, when self-confidence is no where to be found but self-doubt wins it all.

However, this Facebook group, “Flex to the Last Breath”, has found a way to flip the script. Instead of shying away from celebrating personal achievements, the group fosters an environment where members can share their wins, large or small, with fervor and sincerity. This atmosphere of positive reinforcement bolsters self-confidence, allowing individuals to shine unabashedly.

3. It may work?

Beyond simple boasting, The “Flex to the Last Breath” community transforming it into a form of artistic self-expression. Borrowing terminology from the world of football, the group transforms sharing accomplishments into an engaging experience with phrases like “scoring goals”, “creating opportunities”, and “VAR checking”.

Under the dedicated supervision of the admin team, every post undergoes strict quality control to maintain compliance with community guidelines. This ensures a consistent standard of inspiring content that motivates members to ‘flex’ their achievements.

And while even huge celebrities in Vietnam have been drawn into the group’s charm, with their posts generating significant reactions, smaller milestones are equally celebrated. A member who shares about studying for an hour can find themselves showered with admiration and encouragement. This display of mutual respect and awe helps foster a vibrant, dynamic learning environment, inspiring members to strive for excellence.

4. Some food for though.

The success of the “Flex to the Last Breath” group is a testament to the power of online communities in nurturing personal growth. However, as with any phenomenon, there’s room for improvement.

One area that can be further enhanced is promoting meaningful reflection. Members could be encouraged to share not only the ‘what’ but also the ‘how’ of their achievements. By sharing their journey and the hurdles they’ve overcome, members can provide a realistic picture of the path to success and inspire others who may be facing similar challenges.

Lastly, the question arises – what about those who are not on Facebook? Perhaps the person who doesn’t have a Facebook account is the one who needs this encouragement the most. In other words, the exclusivity of information on a specific platform could unintentionally create disparities in information accessibility.

How do you feel? What are your ideas for making this community a learning community?
